Building a prospect list used to mean hours of manual research.
You would pull a broad list of allocators, sort through them one by one, try to figure out which ones were actually relevant to your strategy, and end up with a spreadsheet that was already out of date by the time you started making calls.
It is one of the most time-consuming parts of investment sales, and for most teams it still feels like a necessary evil.
It does not have to be.
Dakota's investment preference filters inside the DealCloud integration let your team build targeted, strategy-specific prospect lists directly from Dakota Marketplace and push them into DealCloud in a single action.
In this article, we are covering exactly how to use those filters, what you can filter by, and how to turn a filtered list into a live prospect list in your DealCloud.
Investment preference filters are one of the most powerful tools inside the Data Integrations tab of Dakota Marketplace. They let your team search our full allocator database not just by basic attributes like account type, AUM, or geography, but by the specific strategies and asset classes each allocator actually invests in.
If your firm raises private credit, you can filter for allocators that invest in private credit. If you are raising a global equities strategy, you can filter for allocators with global equities exposure. If you are focused on venture capital, real estate, infrastructure, or any other strategy, the filters let you find the allocators that are actually relevant to what you are raising rather than pulling in a broad list and sorting through it manually.
Log into Dakota Marketplace and navigate to the Data Integrations tab by clicking the More tab on the far right of your navigation. On the right side of the Data Integrations page you will see a Filters panel. This is where all of your filtering options live, including investment preferences.
The filters available include account type, AUM range, metro area, country, and investment preferences. You can use them individually or in combination to get as granular as you need. The more specific your filters, the more targeted your prospect list.
To filter by investment preference, open the Filters panel on the right side of the Data Integrations tab and scroll to the investment preferences section. Here you will see the full range of asset classes and strategies Dakota tracks across our allocator database.
Select the strategies that are relevant to your raise. You can select multiple preferences at once, so if your firm raises across private credit and private equity, you can filter for allocators with exposure to both. Once you have made your selections, click Search and Dakota will return every allocator in our database that matches your criteria.
The results show you each matching account alongside any link icons indicating which ones are already connected to your DealCloud. This gives your team an immediate read on which prospects are already in your CRM and which ones are new opportunities.
If your team is still building prospect lists manually, there is a faster way. See how Dakota's filters work inside DealCloud.
Investment preference filters are most powerful when combined with other filters. Here are a few combinations your team can use to build highly targeted prospect lists:
Once you have built your filtered list, pulling it into DealCloud is straightforward. Select the accounts you want by clicking the checkbox on the left side of each record. You can select up to 200 records at a time.
Come up to the action item dropdown and choose whether to Link or Create. If some of these accounts might already exist in your DealCloud, try linking first. Our integration performs a fuzzy match to find the right records and prevents duplicates from being created. For accounts that genuinely do not exist in your DealCloud yet, create them with their contacts in a single step.
Once you have made your selections, pulling them into DealCloud is a straightforward process that covers linking, creating, and monitoring your integration activity afterward.
The firms that get the most out of Dakota's investment preference filters are the ones that use them regularly, not just at the start of a new raise. Markets shift. Allocators update their preferences. New firms enter strategies they were not previously investing in. Running a filtered search on a regular cadence means your team is always aware of new opportunities that match their strategy and never misses an allocator that has recently become relevant.
Building this into a weekly or monthly habit inside the Data Integrations tab is one of the simplest ways to keep your DealCloud working as an active sales tool, and it is just one of the 10 ways to get more out of the integration your team already has.
Investment preference filters turn what used to be hours of manual research into a targeted, repeatable process that takes minutes. Filter by strategy, refine by geography or AUM, pull the results into DealCloud, and let us keep everything current from there. Your team gets to spend their time on relationships, not on research.
Our full CRM integration suite covers everything your firm needs to get Dakota's data working inside the tools your team already uses.
