Dakota hosted a product webinar unveiling version 4.0 of the Dakota Marketplace for Salesforce app, the largest release the app has had since it launched on the AppExchange.
Head of Product Pat Tighe and Dominique Mortelliti, Account Executive for CRM Integrations, walked through what changed. Almost every enhancement in this release came directly from customer requests: one-click linking for an account and all of its contacts, saved custom list views, exports to Excel, mass unlinking, and a new read-only permission set. The goal behind all of it is a Salesforce instance where sales teams never have to leave the CRM to get Dakota data.
The session included a live demo of the new Marketplace Accounts and Contacts tabs, the redesigned account record page, and the permissions rework that client data teams had been asking for.
In this article, we'll recap what's new in version 4.0, what the demo showed, the questions customers ask most, and the resources mentioned during the session.
The Dakota Marketplace for Salesforce app lives on the Salesforce AppExchange, and it exists so that Marketplace accounts and contacts flow into your Salesforce instance. As Dominique put it, it looks like Dakota Marketplace inside your CRM. The homepage, metro areas, investments, and public plan minutes are all there, so there is no reason to open a second window to research an allocator.
Version 4.0 extends that idea further than any release before it. The data that used to live only in the web version of Marketplace now has a home inside Salesforce.

The single Dakota Marketplace Search tab is gone. In its place are two separate tabs, Marketplace Accounts and Marketplace Contacts, each with a new custom list view system.
Users can filter by metro area, account type, investment preferences, and more, then save the result as a named list. In the demo, Dominique filtered to public pension funds across the Atlanta, Austin, and Baltimore metro areas, added an investment preference filter for private real estate, and saved the result as its own view. Saved lists can be renamed, updated, pinned, unpinned, or deleted, and a pinned list loads automatically the next time the tab opens.
Two more additions live on these tabs. An export button pulls any list into Excel, which matters for teams who want to review or share a list before deciding what to bring into the CRM. A reset and refresh option clears filters or refreshes the page after a round of linking.

The biggest workflow change in 4.0 is in the mass action dropdown. Alongside the existing create and link options, there is now a combined action that links an account and all of its related contacts in one pass.
Before this release, linking was two separate jobs. You linked the account, then went back and linked the contacts. Now the app links the account first, running a fuzzy match on the name and offering phone number, website, or CRD as alternate match fields when naming conventions differ, then moves straight into matching contacts by full name. One action, both halves done.
Records that are already connected show a link icon, the visual cue that they are receiving live updates.
The account record page picked up the most new real estate in this release:
Nearby Accounts loads a map of records located close to the account you are viewing, which is built for the moment you are scheduling meetings around a trip. Marketplace Updates surfaces changes made to the record over time. Dakota Details adds new account-level fields, including number of QPs and average ticket size by strategy across hedge funds, private credit, private equity, private real estate, and real assets.
Contacts can now be linked or created directly from the account page, without going back to a separate tab. And every related Marketplace list for that account now appears as a tab on the record itself: clients, consultant reviews, searches, allocations, Dakota content, manager presentations, and more.
Unlinking got easier too. Records can be unlinked one at a time from the record page, or in bulk through the mass action dropdown, which was a frequent request from teams who had pulled over more than they meant to.

Dakota Recommends is now available inside the Metro Areas tab, so hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, event spaces, and full city guides are one click away when a salesperson is planning a trip. The Map It and nearby accounts feature carries across account and contact record pages as well.
Version 4.0 also adds a set of read-only tabs that give users direct search access to datasets that previously lived outside the Salesforce app: Consultant Reviews, Pension Documents, Fund Presentations, Earnings Intelligence, Private Funds, Fund Launches, Hedge Fund Performance, Private Companies, Private Fund Performance, Alumni Network, and All Documents, which is the former Manager Presentations tab renamed.
These tabs support custom list views like the rest of the app. They are read-only, meaning users can search and view the data inside Salesforce but none of it is stored there.
The permissions system was reworked in this release, and it came straight from client data teams.
There is now a Dakota Marketplace read-only user permission set that restricts non-admin users to view-only access, with no ability to create records, link records, or run mass actions. Sharing rules can be updated through the integration with support from Dakota's Salesforce admin team. For firms that want their sales team seeing Dakota data without changing what sits in the CRM, this is the control they asked for.
Someone from the Dakota team will be reaching out to existing Dakota Marketplace for Salesforce customers to schedule the upgrade. Firms that want to move sooner can contact Dominique Mortelliti directly and get it on the calendar right away.
Not for day-to-day work. With the related lists on the record page and the new standalone data tabs, the information that used to require a separate web login is now available inside Salesforce.
No. The new tabs on the right-hand side of the app are read-only. Users can search them and build custom list views, but that data is not stored in your instance. The records you deliberately link or create are the ones that live in Salesforce and stay updated.
Yes. The new read-only permission set limits non-admin users to viewing data, with no create, link, or mass action access. Dakota's Salesforce admin team walks through the sharing rules with you during setup.
