July saw a number of marquee people moves punctuate a competitive recruiting landscape, with UBS on the departing end of two of the month’s largest advisor transitions, as $2B Entrepreneurs Group left for Rockefeller Global Family Office and $1.7B Hudson River Wealth Management affiliated with RBC Wealth Management.
Raymond James again stood out on the recruitment front, adding at least 11 advisor teams with a total AUM of $4.65B during the month, according to moves tracked by Dakota. During a recent earnings call, CEO Paul Shoukry called it the most active recruiting pipeline since the financial crisis – driven by transition support, platform flexibility, and “all hands on deck” execution.
Overall, UBS saw around $6.05B in AUM leave across seven teams in July, continuing a broader trend. Company executives said in February that they expected advisor departures to spike this year following compensation plan changes, and the firm saw a net loss of 111 advisors in the second quarter alone. However, CFO Todd Tuckner downplayed the attrition during the firm's earnings call, citing the company's improved margins in its wealth management business, as well as its "highly attractive" advisor platform. He added the company is "aggressively" recruiting and that it is seeing more advisors commit to stay and retire with the firm.
On the leadership front, Venu Krishnamurthy joined HarbourVest Partners as head of global private wealth, Kingsview Partners founder and current executive chairman Josh Lewis moved into the CEO role, and Foster City, CA-based investment manager Bailard Inc. promoted Dave Harrison Smith to CIO.
