State Street Global Advisors said it has formed a strategic relationship with Westport, CT-based Bridgewater Associates in a bid to increase access to core alternative investment strategies.
In the tie-up, Bridgewater will bring its expertise in portfolio construction and strategic asset allocation for institutional investors to SSGA’s retail client base, though neither firm provided specifics on how the relationship will manifest in SSGA products and services.
The move comes in response to growing investor demand for access to alternatives, with State Street noting that its own “Global Advisors ETF Report” showed that 45% of institutional investors globally plan to increase allocations to alternatives in the next 12 months, and 41% of US financial advisors intend to advise clients to increase their allocations in the space.
