Hamilton Lane Builds out Direct Equity Team

Alternative investment manager Hamilton Lane announced the recruitment of five new senior team members to its direct equity investment team in North America and Europe.

At the firm’s headquarters in Conshohocken, PA, it added Principal Nelda Chang and Kyle McGinnis and Jenny Zhang as vice presidents. Chang joins from GCM Grosvenor, where she was also a principal, prior to which she had stints at Headlands Capital, American Securities, and JP Morgan. She will oversee due diligence on the team’s North American direct investment opportunities.

McGinnis joins from Onex Partners, where he served as a principal handling the private equity portfolio, and before that held positions with H.I.G. Capital and Wells Fargo Securities. Zhang joins with extensive experience handling roles in private equity teams, most recently at Two Sigma after three years at Carlyle. Both vice presidents will be expected to lead evaluation and execution of the team’s direct equity investment opportunities.

In London, Aljoscha Dudek joins as principal, formerly serving as director at PSP Investments overseeing strategy in the European private equity portfolio. Prior to that, she worked at Neuberger Berman in private equity and at Morgan Stanley.

Separately, Hamilton Lane’s impact investment team added Benjamin Kalter from Nuveen, where he held the position as vice president on the private equity investment team. In his new role he will be responsible for direct equity impact transactions and will also operate out of the Pennsylvania office.

Chang, McGinnis, Zhang, and Dudek will report to Co-Head of Direct Equity Investments Ken Binick, while Kalter will report to Head of Impact Investments Dave Helgerson.
