UWM Foundation President Gilbert to Retire

University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) Foundation president David Gilbert has announced his retirement effective July 1, ending a two-decade tenure with UWM.

Gilbert was first appointed to the position by the foundation’s board of directors in 2005. As president, he established the foundation’s subsidiary corporations UWM Real Estate Foundation, which he also headed, and UWM Research Foundation, and led the distribution of $300M to the university from UWM Foundation fundraising efforts. The UWM Foundation Board said it has hired Spano Pratt Executive Search to assist in the recruitment of a new president.

As of June 30, 2024, the university foundation’s endowment administers a $246M investment portfolio with a 10-year return of 7.4%. It allocates more than half of the portfolio, or 53%, to domestic equities, another 17.4% to international equities, while fixed income accounts for 29.5% of the portfolio. Overall, the UWM Foundation manages approximately $327M in total assets.
