LACERS Changes NEPC Key Person

The Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System is replacing Carolyn Smith from NEPC with colleague Christian McCormick as a key person, following the announcement of Smith’s retirement by year-end, according to materials from its November 12 board meeting.

McCormick was named the pension’s NEPC staff consultant, joining existing key persons Kevin Novak and Rose Dean. He joined NEPC in May and has nearly 25 years of experience in the investment industry, most recently serving as senior client portfolio manager with Voya Investment Management before moving to NEPC. Prior to that, he held a variety of positions with Allianz Global Investors, INTECH Investment Management, Meketa Investment Group, and Pacific Corporate Group.

Three candidates from NEPC were considered during the interview process, and the selection of McCormick was seen to “fit LACERS specific functional needs” while also complementing the capabilities of Novak and Dean.
