Allocator research usually means four or five tabs open at once: Dakota Marketplace in one, your CRM in another, a spreadsheet of talking points in a third, and a search engine running in the background for anything that happened this week. Every time you switch tabs, you re-explain what you're looking for.
The Dakota Marketplace connector for Claude collapses that into one conversation. You ask, Claude pulls from Dakota's live account and contact data, and you get an answer without leaving the thread.
This isn't a chatbot bolted onto a database. It's Claude, connected directly to your Dakota Marketplace subscription, doing the filtering, cross-referencing, and summarizing that used to take a dozen manual steps.
The reason this is useful and not just novel comes down to where the answers come from. Claude draws exclusively from Dakota Marketplace records when you're asking about allocators, contacts, or activity. If the data isn't in Dakota, Claude says so rather than guessing or filling in a plausible-sounding answer. For a rep building a target list or prepping for a call, that distinction matters: a wrong guess costs you a meeting, a clear "I don't have that" costs you thirty seconds of follow-up research.
Access is also scoped to what you're actually entitled to see. The connector runs on per-user authentication, so a rep's Claude conversation reflects that rep's Dakota Marketplace subscription. Nobody sees data outside their own access, and nothing about the integration changes what your firm has already licensed.
Instead of building a filtered list in Marketplace and exporting it, you describe the target in plain language: "Show me family offices in the Southeast with $500 million or more in AUM that invest in private credit." Claude runs the equivalent of that filtered search and returns the account list in the conversation, ready to narrow further or export.
Once you've identified a target, the next question is usually "who do I actually talk to, and what have they been doing." Ask Claude for the decision-maker at a specific allocator, their title, and recent position or activity changes on record in Dakota, and it pulls that directly rather than sending you back into the platform to look it up manually.
Before a call, ask Claude to surface anything relevant Dakota has on that allocator: recent searches, plan minutes, RFPs, or fundraising context that changes how you open the conversation. It's the difference between walking in with a name and walking in knowing what's actually happening at that institution right now.
A few examples of prompts that work today, and what comes back:
Each of these is a single prompt where you'd otherwise be running a search, exporting a list, and manually checking a second data point.
Setting up the Dakota Marketplace connector in Claude takes about five minutes. Once it's connected, it works across web, desktop, and mobile, and you can toggle it on or off per conversation depending on whether you need Dakota data in that thread. Your existing Marketplace subscription determines what you can see; the connector doesn't add or remove access on its own.
Dakota Marketplace gives investment firms access to roughly 174,000 allocator, investment firm, and private company accounts and 628,000 contacts across the US and 91 additional countries as of January 2026, now searchable directly inside Claude. If you're trying to find allocators by AUM and geography, pull a decision-maker's contact info before a call, or catch up on an account's recent activity, the connector puts that inside the same conversation you're already having.
