Hilbert Group announced the acquisition of British Virgin Islands-based digital asset manager Liberty Road Capital in an equity-only purchase with an earn-out and up-front component, adding $110M to the Stockholm-based firm’s assets.
The deal between Hilbert Group and Liberty Road is expected to close in January 2025. Hilberg Group said the acquisition will substantially increase its AUM, enhance future earnings, and add advanced AI trading and crypto derivatives strategies.
Liberty Road CEO and co-founder Russell Thompson is expected to be elected to Hilbert’s board, in conjunction with the closing of the acquisition. Thompson is an industry veteran with three decades of experience in investment management, notably co-founding hedge fund The Cambridge Strategy, which achieved $3.5B in AUM before its sale in 2018.
