Overview

Whittier Trust focuses on both the tangible and intangible aspects of family wealth, a practice maintained for over four generations since its inception as the family office for the Whittier Family. Max Whittier was a pioneer in California real estate and petroleum. As a director of Rodeo Land and Water Co., Mr. Whittier owned much of the land that eventually became Beverly Hills. His success in petroleum culminated in the 1979 sale of the family's Belridge Oil Company to Shell Oil for a then-record sum exceeding $3.6 Billion. Whittier Trust manages approximately $35 billion in AUM, with its RIA assets amounting to about $1 billion. It handles long-only exposure internally, but finds opportunities in the private and liquid alternative space. The firm manages a multi-strategy hedge fund and a credit evergreen structure, which makes it more receptive to alternative strategies.
