Alera Group is an independent national insurance and financial services firm established in 2016 through the merger of 24 entrepreneurial firms that share a commitment to high performance. The founding firms collaborated to harness their extensive relationships, industry expertise, and resources to enhance the client experience. In January 2023, Alera Group announced the acquisition of The Ascent Group and its affiliated companies, based in Virginia Beach. This acquisition significantly increases assets under management for Alera Group, adding approximately $1.5 billion to its Wealth Services registered investment advisor (RIA) business and $1.3 billion to its Retirement Plan Services division. The Ascent Group includes Virginia-based Summit Group, led by Jeff Silverman, and Pennsylvania-based Walsh & Nicholson Financial Group, led by Brian Walsh. Founded in 2021 by Silverman, Walsh, and CEO Michael Moss, The Ascent Group employs 42 associates, including 15 financial advisors. With the addition of the $1.5 billion in RIA assets, Alera Group Wealth Services now manages a total of approximately $7.5 billion in assets under management as of the end of 2022.
