A filtered, ranked prospect list is only half the job. It still has to turn into an actual conversation with the person who can say yes. The gap between a good list and a booked meeting is usually a contact problem, not a targeting problem, and it is where a lot of otherwise well-built 13F prospecting efforts stall out.
Dakota Marketplace tracks 2,790 contacts holding Chief Investment Officer or Portfolio Manager titles at RIA accounts, 2,608 of them reachable through direct contact information. A 13F filing tells you an account holds a position. It does not tell you who at that account owns the decision to change it. Reaching a generic firm inbox or an operations contact with a pitch aimed at an investment decision-maker wastes the advantage a warm, filtered list is supposed to create.
The account-level targeting from a 13F search narrows the universe. The contact-level targeting determines whether that narrowed universe actually converts into a meeting.
Once a list is filtered by product structure and position size and matched to the right contact, the conversation itself is different from cold outreach. The opening does not have to sell the category, since the prospect already owns something adjacent to it. It can go straight to the specific comparison: what this fund does differently from the position they already hold, and why that difference is worth a meeting.
That distinction changes what the first outreach message needs to accomplish. Cold outreach has to earn interest in the asset class before it can earn interest in the manager. Warm outreach to a confirmed 13F holder can skip the first step entirely and lead with manager-specific differentiation, since the category-level interest is already proven by the filing itself.
Dakota Marketplace tracks 6,891 accounts filing 13F reports, with roughly 47,000 verified contacts at RIA accounts alone, including 2,790 at the Chief Investment Officer or Portfolio Manager level specifically. Fund managers use Marketplace to filter by:
