University of Alabama Commits $48.5M to Three Alts Funds

The University of Alabama System Endowment made a total of $48.5M in commitments across three funds, according to materials from its November 7 board meeting.

The pension allocated $20M to secondary fund Hollyport Secondary Opportunities IX, $8.5M to early stage venture capital strategy Atlas Venture Fund XIV, and $20M to oil and gas fund Pearl Energy Investment Management IV. Hollyport and Pearl Energy are new relationships, while Atlas Venture has been a long-time partner for the pension in venture investments.

During the meeting, consultant Fund Evaluation Group said the pension’s private equity portfolio is “well-diversified across sub-strategies and groups,” with buyouts accounting for 44% of PE exposure, followed by venture capital at 28%, growth equity at 14%, and secondaries at 13%, as of June 30.
