In August, Dakota tracked over $19B across 171 commitments from 41 distinct pension funds and endowments. In this article, we highlight the top allocators and allocations made in the month of August by these public institutions:

The Top Allocators for the Month

  • Florida State Board of Administration disclosed $6.4B in new commitments
  • New Mexico State Investment Council reported an additional $2.3B in commitments
  • Virginia Retirement System reported $1.8B in commitments

Asset Classes

  • Private Equity: A total of $4.2B was directed into 52 commitments, making up approximately 30.4% of the month’s commitments.
  • Private Credit: $5.7B was invested through 30 deals, constituting 17.5% of the total.
  • Private Real Estate: This category saw $4.1B allocated across 39 investments, representing 22.8% of commitments.
  • Real Assets/Infrastructure: $2.6B was allocated across 20 commitments, accounting for 11.7% of the month’s total.
  • Venture Capital: $1.3B was invested across 23 investments, or approximately 13.5% of investments.

  • Private Equity: Buyouts made up nearly 20% of overall commitments, with $3.1B allocated to 34 funds ranging from lower middle market to large buyout strategies.
  • Private Credit: Opportunistic strategies attracted $2.1B in commitments, equaling 2.9% of the total. Direct Lending strategies accounted for 7.6% of investments, attracting $1.2B to the asset class.
  • Real Assets: Infrastructure investments saw over $2.4B in commitments, representing 10.5% of the month’s allocations. 
  • Real Estate: Opportunistic and value-added strategies accounted for $3.4B, which was 16.4% of the investments tracked in August.
