NY State Common Unveils June Commitments

The New York State Common Retirement Fund (CRF) has released their June 2022 monthly transaction report, disclosing investments across equities, real estate, and private credit.

CRF committed $500 million to Pictet Global Environment Opportunities (GEO) fund. The Fund will invest in companies that are “active along the environmental value chain”, according to their website.

In private equity, €225 million (approximately $228M) was committed to buyout fund, Bridgepoint Europe VII. €50 million (approximately $51M) was committed to private equity co-investment fund, Marble Arch Albany Co-Investment, managed by Bridgepoint Capital. $50 million was committed to New York Credit SBIC Fund II, which will target debt investments in lower middle markets across New York state. $400 million was committed to Hamilton Lane NY Israel Fund II, targeting Israel-focused funds and co-investments in the technology and healthcare/life sciences sector. €300 million (approximately $305M) was committed to Knickerbocker Co-Investment Partners, which will invest in opportunities alongside CVC Capital Partners European/Americas and Asian funds.

In real estate, CRF committed $500 million to the Principal U.S. Property Separate Account fund. $500 million was committed to JP Morgan Strategic Property Fund. $500 million was invested as a follow-on commitment to PRISA, managed by PGIM. $200 million was allocated to Fairfield U.S. Multifamily Core Plus Fund II. $500 million was committed to Blackstone Real Estate Partners X.

$150 million was committed to Sixth Street Growth Partners II, which will focus on investments ranging from senior secured term loans to convertible notes. $200 million was committed to Sixth Street Opportunities Partners V, which will focus on investments with downside protection from growth, stressed, and distressed situations.

In addition, the CRF Emerging Manager Program made a commitment of up to $16 million to Basis Investment Group (BIG) Equity Value-Add Fund II. The commitment is being made through the Empire GCM RE Anchor Fund. BIG Equity Value-Add Fund II will focus on middle market value-add and opportunistic commercial real estate.

The value of the New York State Common Retirement Fund was approximately $272 billion as of March 31, 2022.
