European and Asian institutional allocators are emphasizing downside protection, income strategies, and thematic growth, with infrastructure (45%) and private credit (39%) topping allocation plans, per PGIM’s Gatekeeper Pulse survey. Direct investments and co-investments are preferred over pooled funds, especially in sectors like cybersecurity and AI. Recent moves include allocations by Marin County, Arkansas, and Los Angeles Fire & Police, plus Apollo’s new private credit mandate in Singapore. Azerbaijan’s SOFAZ invested in Italian solar assets, and SSS Philippines acquired a stake in Century Properties. These actions reflect growing selectivity, risk focus, and domestic tilt among public allocators globally.
According to Schwab’s 2025 Benchmarking Study, top-performing RIAs are pulling away from peers by doubling growth rates and driving three times more net flows. Inorganic expansion, advisor hiring, and alternative investment adoption are key trends. Nearly half of RIAs surveyed are pursuing acquisitions, especially those with over $1B AUM. New firms include Innovative Asset Advisors. SEI acquired a majority stake in Stratos Wealth Holdings, and firms like UBS and Janney made key advisor hires. Talent remains critical, with nearly 80% of firms hiring in 2024 and plans to expand continuing into 2025 as firms build scale and enterprise readiness.
Private fund activity remained strong with Stonepeak launching its second Asia infrastructure fund after closing its first at $3.3B. Leonard Green began raising $15B for its 10th buyout fund, while BlackRock, Pollen Street, and Reverence Capital advanced new funds. In private credit, Partners Group secured over $1B in direct lending and Symbiotic Capital prepped a healthcare credit fund. VC launches include China’s LightSpeed, India’s W Health, and Singapore’s Immortal Dragons longevity fund. Real estate saw SL Green and Oryx close major raises. Themes across all asset classes include tech infrastructure, climate transition, and growing semi-liquid structures.
