Theory Ventures Makes $450M Close on Second Software VC Fund

San Francisco-based venture capital firm Theory Ventures announced the closing of its second fund at $450M, following the $238 close of its inaugural fund in April 2023, targeting investments of $1M to $25M in early-stage software startups in the data, AI, and web3 spaces.

Theory takes a thesis-based approach to investing, believing that data engineering and analytics platforms will power the next generation of enterprise applications, AI has the potential to revolutionize industries by automating labor-intensive tasks, and web 3 and blockchain technologies will underpin the modern banking system and movement of money.

The firm recently led a $20M investment in modern business intelligence software Omni, the $16.8M Series A round for Dropzone AI, and the $16.5M Series A round for Allium.
