NYSTRS Targeting $500M to Emerging Market Debt

The New York State Teachers’ Retirement System recently reviewed their Emerging Market Debt Portfolio.

It was recommended to establish an internally managed emerging market debt mandate of $500 million, benchmarked to the Bloomberg EM USD Aggregate Investment Grade.

Funding will be split into two fundings of $250 million, initially investing in US Treasuries.

As of December 31, 2023, the $26.6 billion pension system allocates approximately 2% to global bond strategies, with the proposed target of 0.4% to Emerging Market Debt.
