DARPA Seeks UHNW, Institutional Investors for “Venture Horizons” Program

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is seeking “a select group of top-tier investors” to participate in a new initiative dubbed “Venture Horizons” that seeks to connect them with DARPA-backed projects.

Part of the US Department of Defense, the agency is known for incubating cutting-edge technologies, such as the Internet, GPS, and automated voice recognition, that proved transformative when commercialized. It has issued a request for information (RFI) in order to provide professional investors – specifically family offices, angel investors, and venture capital and private equity firms – with opportunities to invest in DARPA technologies. The agency said it believes the initiative will “amplify the impact” of its work on breakthrough technologies.

DARPA is seeking investors “with pedigrees and track records of commercializing technology” that are interested in partnering with it to advance its mission of making “pivotal investments” in new technologies that support US national security. Respondents will be expected to explain their investment focus and approach and how they are best suited to contribute to furtherance of the agency’s mission. Responses are due by 5:00pm EST on November 25.
