Bain: Private Markets AUM Could Reach $65T by 2032

Private market assets are set to grow at a remarkable pace, with Bain & Company forecasting a 9% to 10% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) that could see assets under management (AUM) reach between $60 and $65 trillion by 2032. This growth rate is more than double that of public markets, positioning private assets to constitute 30% of total AUM within the next decade.

Bain's report highlights how shrinking profit margins in traditional asset management are driving wealth and asset management firms to increasingly focus on private markets. These firms are responding to investor demands for higher yields, diversification, and inflation hedges by offering niche products or scaling their operations.

The report also notes that private equity and venture capital will continue to dominate, while sectors like private credit and infrastructure are expected to expand significantly. To successfully capitalize on this ongoing shift, Bain said firms will need to develop new capabilities in strategy, investor education, sales, and M&A integration.
