How to Post an Effective Investment Sales Job Using Dakota Jobs

Have you ever posted a job for your firm, only to have it take much, much longer than expected to fill the role? Have you hired someone who didn’t meet your firm’s expectations, or left in a perilously short amount of time? If any of these sound like you, you’re not alone. 

Finding the right candidates in the investment management industry can be a long, arduous task. A lot of the time, no one knows where to turn to find experienced candidates to add to their team. LinkedIn and Indeed offer large swaths of candidates, but they often don’t align with the specific needs of an investment firm, or there are so many potential candidates that it takes far too long to parse through them all.

In this article, we’re going to walk you through the step by step process of creating an account and posting a job to Dakota Jobs, a free resource for finding talent. By the end of this article, you’ll be ready to get started listing jobs and recruiting your next great teammate.

1. Create your account

The first step to posting a job is setting up your account. This includes creating your company profile. During setup you’ll be asked to provide:

  • Company name
  • Location
  • Website
  • Your firm’s logo
  • A firm description (you can pull this from your website, a PDF, or LinkedIn posting and copy and paste it into the text box)
  • Phone number
  • Full name
  • Asset classes (an optional field allowing you to list specific asset classes you fundraise for)
  • A password and confirmation 

2. Post a Job

Now that your account is all set, you can go ahead and hover over the “Employers” tab at the top right, and click “post a job” from the drop down. Next, you’ll select “post a job for free.”

Now you’re ready to enter the details of your open position. In this section of the job board, you'll be asked for: 

  • Job title
  • Category (This is the type of job you’re hiring for. Categories can include: accounting, admin/clerical, business development, consultant relations, human resources, information technology, marketing, sales, wholesaler, investor relations, analyst, intern, portfolio manager, trader, finance, operations, wealth manager, compliance, and executive assistant). Once you select this, you’ll have to click out of the pop-up box to continue. 
  • Tags (These make it easier for job seekers to find you. You can tag things like industry, asset classes, or technologies used in the role).
  • Job location
  • Accept application via: email or link. (The link option will redirect them to your website or LinkedIn, while the email option will direct job seekers to a specific email address where they can attach their resume and apply directly.)
  • Job description (You can pull this from your website, a PDF, or LinkedIn posting and copy and paste it into the text box)
  • Job type (Are you looking for a full time, part time, or intern employee?)
  • Salary range
  • How to apply (Include any additional directions or requirements such as a cover letter here.)
  • Expiration date (How long do you want the job posting to be up?)
  • Firm type (An optional field)
  • Firm product types (An optional field)
  • Required product expertise (An optional field)

3. Monitor your inbox for applications

Now that you’ve set up your account and posted your job, be sure to keep an eye on your inbox and website submissions for new applicants! It’s as simple as that.
